Alter EGO Curativ Ego Cren Sale!Hair Loss Conditioners)

Long Story Short:

Once upon a time, I renounced my wild ways and swore to be loyal to one hairdresser forever. This hairdresser hailed from the Dominican Republic. I soon discovered her habit of ‘dosing’ certain clients' scalp with drops from a mysterious bottle. I was not one of the chosen few.  Every visit, I mentioned some new hair complaint.  She would smile and treat my hair/scalp to this or that- but never the stuff from the bottle in the green box.

I discovered its name: Alter Ego Curativ-Ego Cren. I understood that I had to have it. I googled and amazoned. I eventually bought the product from beautyofnewyork.com- at the time it was in the USD $29-32 range.

Its true purpose?

The Alter Ego Cren claims to help to prevent hair loss and shedding.

Its wordy boast?

" It’s a rich cream which through the stimulating effect of the cellular metabolism and the nutritive contribution to the scalp helps to prevent the hair loss. Its active substances are horse radish extracts (known as Cren) and an amino- peptidic complex system derivated from the proteins of hydrolyzed soya. Both the vaso-dilator qualities of the horse- radish extract and the soya proteins make the product an integrative nourishing and revitalizing element for the scalp, strengthening the piliferous bulb whose weakness is responsible for hair loss…”  Uh…okay!

My Experience:

It was a while before I actually started using the Cren. For, productaholic as I might be, I try my best to use products only when needed. As fate would have it, around three to four months, after buying the Cren, I started shedding more than usual. At first, I wasn’t worried, but, after a while people started following my hair strands to locate me.  My usage of the Cren began.

The instructions on the bottle and box were a bit unhelpful. I was supposed to use some other Alter Ego product (riiiiiiiight) then apply the Cren. But how?! I was to use the CREN every three days for the first two weeks. Full stop. Well, and then what?! So, I thought back to what I’d seen my hairdresser do….  I did my wash then conditioning treatment as usual and after setting my hair, applied careful drops between the rollers to my scalp. It had an agreeable scent- not medicated or overwhelming- and it tingled a little. Then, it tingled a lot under the dryer and I began wondering about the wisdom of not doing a preliminary test (please do a preliminary test!). The tingling soon passed.

I followed up this first treatment with a second three days later- this time just putting my hair in sections and using the dropper to apply the drops sparingly to my scalp. I kept this up every three days for two weeks and imagined I saw some improvement. Then, using my discretion (and online hear/writesay), I switched to using the CREN once per week. A month or two in and I was sure the shedding had decreased. Three to four months in, not much shedding to speak of and my hair was definitely stronger. Five to six months in, my hairdresser was congratulating herself for the healthy state of my hair. Three years later, I’ve introduced co-workers and friends suffering greater shedding/growth problems than I’ve ever had to the CREN. They are all, last time I checked, very satisfied customers.

Rounding up the story- The Cren and I:

I finished my last bottle nearly two yeas ago. I’ve not bought another.  No, I haven’t grown dissatisfied with the product. I’m just being ungrateful and cocky now that I no longer have a ‘shedding problem’.  Each bottle lasted me around six months or more- so I didn’t feel the pinch of the price tag too much.  The Cren does seem to be a product which can be used successfully on varying hair types- if my inductees, Dominican hairdressers, and hair care lovers online who rave about it being the ‘miracle product’ are to be believed.  There is also much [justified] raving about the Alter Ego Garlic conditioner…but that’s another review!
