The "bush" beloved by Hollywood

We look to our celebrities, expecting them to be role models and make our world a more pleasant place. And, shockingly some do...but, sometimes, in a sort of ambivalent way.  And, with this very ambiguous introduction, we dive straight into our discussion of this week's "bush".

garlic clovesThink about the many movies in which the well put-together (never mind the photo at left) actor, Garlic, has been featured. He’s always seen looking quite dapper (again, ignore chaos in photo at left) with his mostly perfectly formed cloves and all. He’s quite a popular fellow and he really knows how to give it to the bad guys (who always turn out to be vampires).  But, he’s also the kind of guy with that overpowering scent (which is only a good thing in Harlequin novels) you can’t seem to get rid of for a very long time, after you’ve had a taste of him.

I had “bad feelings” once.    And, someone dared to suggest that I "boil" me up a crushed half or whole garlic clove of garlic tea, strain it, and get this: DRINK SAID TEA.  Want to hear the worst part of it? I protested at first, but, then tried it. The good news- I was immediately cured. The bad news- for that entire week, the scent of garlic refused to leave my universe.

People swear by their garlic tea, you know. They say it’s the best remedy for chasing away a cold, gas or “bad feelings” (learn this: lots of ailments are often summed up as "bad feelings").  Some will even tell you to “wo/man up” and make a habit of eating “de ting” raw. On the latter bit, rest assured that there is a special place (nothing profane, now) somewhere  for these people.

Garlic tea or garlic eaten raw, supposedly, doesn’t “buddy-up” with kidney problems, poor digestion, hypertension, bladder problems and diabetes. Also, any “worms in the body” might as well pack it in if their host is a regular garlic consumer. It has also been said that one might want to hold one's nose and down some garlic tea since it boosts the immune system, improves blood circulation and strengthens the back of any man who requires a strengthening. …So it has been said.

Garlic illustrationI’ve heard of people fashioning a cough syrup of sorts with garlic. Apparently what they do is follow the steps as if making the tea except with considerably less water.  Then they add quite a bit of honey or sugar and sometimes lime to the “tea”. Amazingly, after so many years, I'm still not even the slightest bit tempted to go make and drink my own garlic cough syrup. Unless, you asked me to- for the sake of A Good Dose. And you wouldn’t…. You just wouldn’t.

And, because you would never ask that, let’s just move on. I’ve also heard of people soaking crushed cloves in a bottle with a bit of brandy. They’d shake that bottle for almost a month. Then they’d strain the mixture. The strained mixture would be stored carefully and watched over as if lives depended upon it. Then they’d consume drops of the mixture on the regular.  That’s….nice…for them.
