Beware of Sheep

So the old adage has truth: wolves who have a penchant for sheep  attire are to be avoided at all costs. Otherwise,  you are likely to be gobbled up by the pack.

Everything is not always as it seems; a knight's armor can tend to be quite dull when you realize that. I've been there myself: put trust and faith in an ideal, only to find that what I sought (and thought) was but a mirage.

A friend of mine found herself in a similar scenario after she met a young wolf recently. He  spent a considerable amount of their time together trying to convince her that he was sweet and innocent, wooing her with his wit and using words as sweet as the treats he bought to her at work on an almost daily basis. He was the colleague of a friend who worked in the building next door, so their meetings were as  regular as they were frequent. He was gently persistent and the slight resistance she showed initially soon disappeared as she slowly began to succumb to his charm.

Sounds lovely doesn't it, the stuff of a modern day romantic comedy? That's what she thought too until...

It happened subtlety at first; slight anomalies in his behavior began to reveal little bits of the dark fur hidden beneath the otherwise pristine woolen façade. Like saying he'd call... and then not. Then, getting an attitude when she questioned why.

Resentment is an organically dangerous thing; grown out of the depths of Need, watered with drops of suspicion and nourished by the festering remains of a relationship going in the wrong direction. Once you’re forced to pull out the WD40 one too many times to clean the stubborn rust off of your knight's armor, resentment, coupled with tedious frustration, sets the tone of things to come.

And so after another pointless argument about his growing neglect and diminishing consideration, she decides he has one last chance to show her what he’s all about before she gives up on him. I'm a bit metaphor heavy this week, but, when they make sense they make sense! It is said that everything done in the dark must come to the light.  The same is true of my friend and her wolf.

A night out with some friends provided all the clarity needed to expose the wolf and all his ill intentions. The night had begun as planned: the first venue was reached, but, after about an hour of a poor quality dj's repetitious selections, the decision was made to leave and head to the next joint!

Take two: next club, better music, jamming commences, then a trip to the bar where she looks around and spot something familiar.... Someone who resembles him... But it can't be, since he's home.... Harder, she looks still, silently screaming to herself for him to turn around. Maybe he hears, because he does indeed turn, but, with an extra accessory attached to his arm and she seems to have no intention of letting go.

By this time my friend is already in front of him and his new companion, staring with incredulous disbelief at the wolf before her. His features are clear now; the cute fluffy face has been replaced by a hardened expression complete with fangs. The sheep may have gone, but the expression once realization sets in is definitely sheepish…

My friend muses that she doesn’t remember much about the rest of that night, but we sure as hell do!! Let’s just say after the words flew, their relationship was pretty much over and  as a matter of course full checks are now carried out on all potential suitors to make sure they are void of any and all wolf-like tendencies.
