Mane Texturez- Week 12
Monday 28th June 2010
I’m a firm believer that knowledge is power, and in natural hair care this is no different. I believe that the more knowledge you can obtain about your hair- how to care for it and which products work best for it- the better you will be to make informed choices on the products you use.
Here are some of the books I have read over the years, which, are great sources of information. (Just click on the photos if you are interested in getting more details about the books or, if you'd like to make a purchase.)
1.Textured Tresses: The Ultimate Guide to Maintaining and Styling Natural Hair by Diane Da Costa.
Packed throughout with photos, illustrations, and special celebrity sections, Textured Tresses is a must-have whether you already twist, coil, loc, or want to learn how to begin.
2. Thank God I'm natural: The ultimate guide to caring for and maintaining natural hair by Tia Donaldson
A must-read for any black woman who has suffered hair loss or breakage caused by relaxers. Full of personal tales of hair disasters and ultimate successes and a plethora of tips to help women go natural the right way.
3.Hair Rules!: The Ultimate Hair-Care Guide for Women with Kinky, Curly, or Wavy Hair by Anthony Dickey.
Kinky, curly, or wavy hair isn’t “problem” hair—it’s just hair with a different set of rules! Dickey, considered by top magazine beauty editors to be the foremost authority on caring for, cutting, and styling curly hair, has written Hair Rules! to end the frustration faced by women with curly hair every day.
Hair Rules! is chock-full of simple tips for all types of curly hair and covers everything from the best shampoos and conditioners to use, to damage-free hair-drying (dust off that hood dryer!), the use of natural oils, and the safest coloring, styling, and chemical relaxing techniques—as well as guidelines for maintaining healthy, gorgeous hair.
Happy reading! xx

Even though I am a bonafide product junkie, even I know my limits, which is why there is no Mane review this week. I am trying to limit my usage of products to the absolute (consistent) minimum so that I can see what actually benefits my hair rather than chopping and changing before any effect manages to take place!
With that said, allow me to reiterate that Mane Texturez is a community. Although I head it (no pun intended) we all use it and reap the benefits of knowledge. Sharing really is caring, therefore, ladies and gents, please feel free to drop me an email me here at Re:Belle, and tell me about the things which you are using, what you like, what you don't like and we are more than happy to feature it here, so that we can all be enlightened together.
Stay happy folks! xx
