We interrupt this message to bring you...
Hey Guys! Welcome back to Re:Belle.
If you don’t mind I’m going to take a brief moment out from talking about hair, and clothing to tell you about an event I attended recently. We here at Re:Belle love to celebrate difference, we also love to be able to celebrate those who do something different in order to do something positive in the world.
Formidable Fusion have been doing just that. We will have a special spotlight piece on them in a few weeks however for now I will just tell you a little about the event which was held last Wednesday.I am sure you would have hear about the floods which devastated Pakistan earlier this year. This flood has affected almost 21 million people, and is seen as this poverty stricken country’s worst ever natural disaster. The floods which were triggered by relentless monsoon rains, washed away homes, devoured rice and wheat fields and have left families living on roadsides, and in makeshift camps. With this many affected people, it has been incredibly difficult for the aid to reach all who need it.
Formidable fusion saw a need to help the cause. This results in a series of charity events, the first of which I had the great pleasure of attending last Wednesday. The Formidable Fusion “That’s Showbiz relief” held at Islington’s Chapel Bar, promised to bring Theatre to the masses. It certainly didn’t disappoint.
As my friend and I entered the cosy and ambient surroundings of The Chapel Bar, we had no idea what to expect. The sense of excitement and anticipation was evident. Formidable Fusion founders Natasha and Keely greeted us, explaining the cause, and thanking everyone for their support. Then Natasha kicked things off with a sultry and powerful rendition of "Hey big spender". The gauntlet had been thrown down. These people meant business.
“Showbiz”ness it seemed. The next act to get on stage was Michelle Daly. Demure in her stance, the room was not prepared for what was about to occur in the room. When she broke into Carmen’s “Habenera” in full operatic tone, it nearly blew the roof off! And it was at this time I knew we were in for a special kind of night! The group A Stage Kindly and friends, provided more theatrical relief with 10 or so artists, each performing a song from a series of broadway shows.
The evening wasn’t just conventional, commercially recognizable theatre music. Brothers Victor’n’Hugo, brought humor in a variety show capacity (think Morecambe and Wise meets Benny Hill), and rapper Mishael Lazarus, brought an urban twist with his three tacks, which told of angst and heartbreak, made better through a redeeming force.
I bet your sorry you missed out right? Well don’t worry, there is hope!
As I said previously the show I attended was part of a series of shows which will be put on. The next show will be on the 24th November and will be “The Radiant Relief”. Oozing with friendly, upbeat, inspirational vibes from start to finish, this is a showcase not to be missed! Witness artists perform live with a mixture of memorable melodies, motivational talks, storytelling, comedy and more! You are guaranteed to leave this showcase with a smile. Pictures of the event will be forthcoming, but in the meantime here are the details of the show to come.
Tickets are only £5 with proceeds going to the Pakistan Flood appeal, so why not pass through and show some support for a brilliant cause!!!
