Mane Texturez Week 17

Monday 2nd August 2010

So after 5 and a half weeks, it's time to take out the weave!

After removing the tracks, I washed the weave hair with the loreal shampoo and conditioner and then wrapped it in a towel to get the excess moisture out. After 15 mins (basically the time it took me to unravel my braids), I hung the hair up… (on a hanger is easy enough) to air dry.
Who knew air drying took so long! I suppose it was a combination of the leave in conditioner I used on the hair and the fact that it was pretty cold, why it took so long for it to dry- literally the next day it was still damp in the centre!

Anyway, once I'd unraveled the braids, I must admit I didn’t particularly like what I saw: my head looked like straw- a big bale of straw! This I attributed to my slacking efforts at maintaining my moisturizing oil application.

To be fair, it didn’t take long for the moisture to return. After gently (very, very gently might I add) detangling my hair with a wide tooth comb, I coated my hair with conditioner being careful not to move the hair too much (in an effort to avoid breakage). I let this sit for about 5 mins, then rinsed gently with warm water, this made the hair feel stronger and more pliable. I shampooed with my Profectiv shampoo, and then coated my hair with my Royal Jelly/Honey conditioner. I wrapped my head in clingfilm, tied it with a silk scarf, put on a very warm hat and proceeded to go on about my day,

After about 2 hours I rinsed my hair our again and then applied my Motions leave-in conditioner.  (You can buy that and other products at the Mane Amazon Store- on the right-side of the page).

It was only once I blowdried my hair with some 100% pure unrefined shea butter that I noticed the growth in both length and thickness, the re-growth remained soft to the touch, which pleased me, and it reassured me that the weave had not damaged my hair. I decided there and then that rather than partake in a “fluff week” I would have my hair re-weaved the following day. I twisted my hair in very loose bantu knots and tied with a satin scarf to keep it smooth.

I went along to the hair salon the following day, and had it weaved, my hairstylist made me feel as though all my efforts were paying off when she noted how soft my hair was. Woop woop! Yay me =)

Anyway here is my new style. Its a little less “styled” than the previous, in that the only visible hair out is around the front and the deep side part. My stylist used a hot comb to straighten these strands so that it blends with the weave, and the result is that my hair looks like it has been freshly relaxed! A side swept bang has been razored in to give a nice shape to the style.

Here is the finished result!
